FARMERS FEEDING FAMILIES:  Supporting local Farmers & Families

Pigeon River Garden Club (PRGC) is a local 501(c)3 nonprofit and a key partner in gardening and food security efforts in eastern Haywood County. PGRC will purchase leftover produce from farmers at the end of the market to be delivered Friday mornings to two flagship food security organizations in Canton: the Community Kitchen. The benefits of this simple arrangement are many. Farmers will feel secure in knowing that their produce will either be sold to paying customers through usual sales or purchased at a fair price to feed families in need. Local food pantries and meal providers will have fresh produce delivered to them weekly during the growing season along with the recipes and education on produce use, as needed. PRGC will help create lasting new connections and partnerships between crucial local stakeholders in our county’s food system.

Farmers Feeding Families is supported by The Cruso Endowment. To learn more about The Cruso Endowment or to make a donation click here.

COMMUNITY TABLE: The market entrance will host a free table for non-profit and community groups to share information with the community. For more information or to book the community table email: smathersmarket@gmail.com.

SNAP/EBT: We’re dedicated to making the market accessible to all. We’ll be working to gather statistics during the 2021 market season to apply to the USDA  for SNAP/EBT eligibility. Thank you for your patience as we work towards this goal!
